San Ramon Valley Street Smarts “Walk and Roll with Street Smarts!” Poster Contest

October is National Walk/Bike Month, and Street Smarts is having a Poster Contest!

PLEASE FOLLOW CONTEST GUIDELINES AND REQUIREMENTS LISTED BELOW!

Street Smarts is inviting all elementary school age students to enter the “Walk and Roll with Street Smarts” Poster Contest to win great prizes!

Posters will be judged by local elected officials and community partners. The two top winning posters, in each grade level, will be displayed on Street Smarts Banners throughout the community and marking materials. Visit: street-smarts.com “Events” for more information.

In order to get an estimated count of how many will be entering our Poster Contest, please fill out the attached Google form: Poster Contest Pre-entry. You don’t have to commit, if you sign up. We would like to get an idea for ordering prizes, etc. If you have any questions, please email Dolores at dpita@sanramon.ca.gov. We look forward to seeing your creative poster!

Details and Eligibility:

  • All elementary school students attending or residing in the San Ramon Valley are eligible to participate.
  • Poster Contest begins October 1, 2021.
  • Drawings due by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 4, 2021 (no exceptions)
  • Two winners in the following grade levels will be selected:
    • Kindergarten – 2nd Grade
    • 3rd Grade – 5th Grade
  • Winners will be notified by email by Monday, November 29, 2021.

To Enter:

  • Fill out Poster Contest Pre-entry form. This is not a commitment, but rather an idea for prizes, etc.
  • Fill out Entry and Release Form with your name, email, grade level  and school name (only one student per entry)
  • Fill out and have parent sign Release Form. Entries submitted without release from are not eligible. 
  • Submit your entry no later than 4p.m., Thursday, November 4, 2021.
  • Follow Do’s and Don’ts below.

Do’s:

  • Draw and color a Traffic Safety themed illustration on a white 8 ½ x 11 piece of paper or card stock.
  • Create ideas including bike, scooter, skateboard or pedestrian safety.
  • Include the Street Smarts logo, which can be found at street-smarts.com “Events” tab.
  • Hand draw your artwork and use rich colors for reproduction.
  • Use vertical format layout for banner printing.
  • Keep original artwork, which will be used for scanning and marketing purposes, if artwork is selected. 

Don’ts:

  • Use paper larger than 8 ½ x 11.
  • Include any verbiage, such as message bubbles, or any words, besides a Title in large font. (Words and phrases are not visible on large banners)
  • Use computer, generated artwork.
  • Work with others or parents.
  • Create and/or use 3D effects.
  • Use other people’s artwork (magazines, stickers or any copyrighted material).

Artwork will be judged on:

  • Originality
  • Visual design and composition
  • Storytelling ability – Does the image portray the message?
  • Clear communication of the selected theme – “Walk and Roll with Street Smarts!”
    • “Walk” examples include, but not limited to:
      • Pedestrians crossing the street at a crosswalk
      • Students crossing the street at a crosswalk in front of the school
      • Pedestrians walking their dog
    • “Roll” examples include, but not limited to:
      • Riding a bike with a helmet
      • Riding a scooter with a helmet and pads
      • Riding a skateboard with a helmet and pads

How to submit your artwork through PRIVATE LINK:

  • Upload your 8 ½ x 11 artwork and release form through this PRIVATE link: High Tail: Street Smarts Poster Entry
    • IMPORTANT:
      • 1. When uploading your poster, name the FILE your ‘STUDENT’S NAME‘ POSTER. For example: Jane Doe Poster
      • 2. When uploading the release form, name the FILE your ‘STUDENT’S NAME’ RELEASE. For Example: Jane Doe Release
      • Upload both to the High Tail link above. You are welcome to also note the student’s name in the comments section. But, we will still need the artwork and release saved in their name, as described in 1 and 2.
  • KEEP ORIGINAL ARTWORK: Finalist’s work will be used for scanning and marketing purposes
