The 4th Annual Street Smarts Storybook Poster Contest was the largest to-date. Over 400 entries were submitted by elementary school students in the San Ramon Valley. This was the first year the Street Smarts Program incorporated the storybook concept into the poster contest. This new concept invites students to draw illustrations to correspond with specific pages in a storybook. Each page of the storybook has a specific traffic safety theme, and students are given the text from the storybook and suggestions on what students could draw.

The winning artwork from the 2008 contest were featured in the storybook "Way Out Visitors" written by local storybook author Dana Mentink. The storybooks were distributed at the Street Smarts Storybook Poster Contest Awards Ceremony, held on February 28, 2008 at the San Ramon Community Center's Fountain Room, where over 500 community members participated.
